| 内容記述 | The Mystery of Edwin Droodは作家の他界により未完に終わったディケンズ15番目の長篇小説である。クロイスタラム(ロチェスター)大聖堂の聖歌隊長という地位にありながら、ロンドンの阿片窟に出入りする阿片常習者であるとともに、甥工ドウィン・ドルードをクリスマスの日に殺害してまで、その許嫁ローザ・バッドへの偏執的愛を実現させようとする主人公ジョン・ジャスパーの人間像と生の軌跡の分析を通して、それに投影されている大作家という名声の輝きの下で苦闘と不安の軌跡を描き続けたディケンズとの関わりを考察することを目的としている。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | The Mystery of Edwin Prood is Dickens's fifteenth novel, left unfinished at his death Though he has the rank of choir master in Cloisterham (Rochester) Cathedral, John Jasper, the hero, is an opium addict coming often to the opium den in London, murders Edwin Drood, his nephew, at Christmas, to realize his fierce love to Rosa Bud, Brood's betrothed: through the analysis of Jasper's individuality and life, I intend to direct my attention to the relationship between the portrayal of John Jasper and the condition on which Charles Dickens held his life of struggle and anxiety lit by the intense glare of fame. | |||||
