In the latter half of the 1960s, when the Chinese language was officially forbidden to use and all Chinese schools were closed,along blank period of the language continued until the 1990's in Indonesia. Even after entering this century, riots against the ethnic Chinese occasionally occurred and the flash point of racial confrontation has not necessarily gone out completely. However, according to improved relations with China on the stage of international politics and activation of economic exchange between two countries, it is certain that circumstances surrounding ethnic Chinese as well as Chinese language in Indonesia has become different from the past.
