 note = {P(論文), The purpose of this study is data compression of written characters. This paper is intended to describe algorithms determining the knots for the spline function which have the shape-preserving properties. In this paper, we describe the algorithms of a curve fitting by use of spline and discuss the accuracy of the fitting. For the criterion of fitting, we apply the residuals, by which we determine the knots adaptively and iteratively. A device is considered to reduce the amount of knots. It is proposed that the method which is estimated the residuals. The results of the examinations indicate that the proposed algorithm is the effectual method in data compression of written characters. The features of this method are the good accuracy of the fitting and the capability of making the fitting value at the origin coincide with the actual one so that the property of the characters is satisfied. A few examples of the curve fitting are illustrated in the paper.},
