Although the knee braces installed at the corner of column and beam may raise stiffness of the wall system, columns are opt to be broken by additional bending moment and deficiency of sectional area of columns. So knee braces are not always useful way for antiseismic reinforcement. There are many timber structure such as school buildings or city halls which used knee braces. They were built several decades ago and some of them having large historical value need antiseismic reinforcement.
