We compared antioxidative enzymes, which comprise of cytosolic copper/zinc superoxide dismutase (Cu/Zn-SOD), mitochondrial manganese SOD (MnSOD) in various tissues of quillaja or beet saponin pre-feeding fishes with those in control tissues before and after the challenge of Enterococcus seriolicida infection. Quillaja saponin feeding did not result in any change in the activity of Cu/Zn-SOD. But, we observed a progressive increase in Mn-SOD activity following the challenge.
