Thus, we developed a simple method for analyzing VPA-G. We found that VPA-G could be easily analyzed as VPA with fluorescence polarizing immunoassay (FPIA) after VPA-G in patients' urine was hydrolyzed to VPA with β -glucuronidase. The practical optimum conditions for VPA-G-hydrolysis with β-glucuronidase were considered to be incubation time of 30 min, incubation temperature of more than 37 ℃, and VPA-G to enzyme ratio of 10 nmol/U. Moreover, the amount of VPA measured with FPIA was the same as that determined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.
