The serum cholesterol level of Spontaneously hypertensive rat (stroke-prone) (SHRSP) is lower than that of normotensive Wistar Kyoto rat (WKY). The lower activity of mevalonate pyrophosphate decarboxylase(MPD) was responsible for the reduced cholesterol biosynthesis in the liver of SHRSP.
