A same questionnaire that measures children's abilities to avoid crimes was administered to the children 3 days before and a month after their participation in making the local safety maps. Results showed that the mapping activity improved their crime-avoiding abilities, communication skills, and levels of attachment to the local community. Furthermore, the crime-avoiding abilities were maintained one month after their participation in the mapping activity. These results suggest that the reliability of the educational power of the local safety mapping and it makes children discriminate between dangerous and safety places in their neighborhood.
