Modernization of society has effected the development of families and family members, and the affectionate bond has broken down. On the other hand, the motherhood myth which characterizes Japanese society has maintained the mother's role in childcare. Hence, some gender-related problems have occurred. The most typical problem is that women strive to attain and balance both family life and career, and in the process downgrade the importance of their husbands. As a result, the couples' bonds of affection become impaired.
