Although almost all larval nervous systems degraded during metamorphosis, a posterior sensory vesicle (PSV) remained and became an adult cerebral ganglion. On the other hand, an anterior part of the sensory vesicle, the so called \"neurohypophisis\", became a ciliated funnel of the neural gland rather than part of the cerebral ganglion.
