| 内容記述 | The purpose of this study is to clarify one dimension of the dual transformation of Korea’s industrial structure in the post-chaebol era, focusing on the processes of corporate restructuring and the transformation of vertical integration within chaebol-led manufacturing industries. Using manufacturing clusters in the Changwon and Ulsan regions as case studies, this research examines how production organization has been restructured since the Asian financial crisis. Based on field research conducted through company visits, the study analyzes the cases of the Shinseong Group and Hyundai Motor. The findings indicate that the changes observed since the crisis did not involve the complete dismantling of vertical integration. Rather, they represent a transformation in which core functions—such as final product integration and market responsibility—were retained by lead firms, while peripheral functions including design, tooling, and modular production were selectively externalized. In this sense, Korean manufacturing has been reorganized into a form of functionally differentiated vertical integration. This paper positions such internal transformation as one dimension of the broader dual transformation of industrial structure and provides an analytical linkage to the new industrial developments driven by non-chaebol actors examined in Part II. | |||||||||
