The initial earthquake of magnitude 6.8 struck at 17:56 p.m. local time on Saturday 23 October, but many aftershocks followed. Forty persons were killed by this earthquake and about five thousands peoples were wounded. The number of houses fully collapsed was more than three thousands. House damage investigation team organized by researchers of Fukuyama Univ., Kyoto Univ., Kanazawa Industrial Col. etc. visited the quake-devastated region about a month later after the earthquake occurrence.
