          <dc:description>A string of earthquakes that hit the Niigata prefecture, northern Japan was named as the Mid Niigata Prefecture Earthquake in 2004. The initial earthquake of magnitude 6.8 struck at 17:56 p.m. local time on Saturday 23 October, but many aftershocks followed. Forty persons were killed by this earthquake and about five thousands peoples were wounded. The number of houses fully collapsed was more than three thousands. House damage investigation team organized by researchers of Fukuyama Univ., Kyoto Univ., Kanazawa Industrial Col. etc. visited the quake-devastated region about a month later after the earthquake occurrence. This is the report of earthquake disaster of wooden houses at Kawaguchi Town and Uonuma City which locates very near to the earthquake epcenter.</dc:description>
