          <datacite:description descriptionType="Other">The operating ranges of turbomachines are limited by their unstable characteristics at low flow rate. Surge and rotating stall/stall are main causes of the unsteadiness and many studies on those were carried out. In this paper, rotating stalls in vaneless diffusers of centrifugal turbomachines are reviewed. The contents of this paper are as follows: the condition of onset of rotating stall(RS), measured flow field under RS, several theoretical studies, the cause of RS, predicting method for the critical flow angle/flow rate, predicting method for the rotational speeds of stall cells, the unique phenomenon on the pressure distribution and some unresolved problems.</datacite:description>
