Kaku-an (Kuòān Shīyuǎn) (12th century) was a Chinese monk.
Little is known of him except that he is attributed to be the author of most popular version of the Oxherding Pictures (牛図).
The pictures show the developmental stages of enlightenment.
Noting the similarities between Zen and language learning, here,
I shall use the same sequence as a model for Second Language Learning.
In the discussion I shall look at how this sequence can give insight into the processes of learning a language.
